  1. Layer the ingredients into a clean, dry quart jar in the order listed, tamping down when necessary to accommodate each layer. Place lid on and store to use within a month or so. For longer storage, seal with a vacuum sealer.

To Prepare the Dish

  1. In a medium skillet on medium-high heat, pour in the contents of the jar and stir for 30 seconds, allowing the dry ingredients to warm a bit.
  2. Pour in 2 1/4 cups water and stir well. Bring to boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and serve in tortillas, over rice or noodles, or in a sandwich bun.
